Floor Plan Suggestions

One of the essential ingredients in a successful haunt is having a good floor plan. You will want to be able to move as many people through your haunt as quickly as possible without having them get lost or skip a scene. Also, you will probably have limited floorspace to work with and want to make the most of it.

Here are a few suggestions on how to design a good floor plan for your haunted house.

  1. Make sure that the guests only have one way they can go... If it's possible to go the wrong way, someone always will.
  2. Never have a group leave a room the same way they came in.
  3. Keep hallways narrow.
  4. Provide scares from every angle: front, side, and back. (Don't forget beneath, and above too.)
  5. Have places where no one jumps out so that it's not predictable.
  6. Use blind corners to your advantage. Even if there's nothing there, the guests will be nervous.
  7. Divide big rooms up into winding passageways.
  8. Don't let the guests see the next scene until they get there.
